Overview

Gain the skills and knowledge needed by professional builders in the residential and low rise sector of the building industry. It may also assist in Builder registration or licence applications.

This program covers the skills and knowledge needed by professional builders in the low-rise residential sector of the building industry. The training will also assist in your application for a Builder’s Licence or Builder’s Registration – Contact the licensing or registration body in your state or territory for application requirements.

Learn to run a small to medium construction business and take overall responsibility for completing the construction of a building. Understand the processes involved in selecting contractors, overseeing the work and its quality and successful client liaison.

* In addition to the face-to-face attendance duration listed above, all short courses also require self-directed learning through research, project work and assessment tasks for successful completion.
The duration of short courses may vary dependant on the HIA region delivering this course – some short courses may have a longer face-to-face duration than that indicated above. A detailed training schedule will be discussed with you prior to confirmation of your enrolment.

Pre-requisites

HIA will conduct a pre-enrolment review with you to make sure that this program is suitable for your needs, current skills and experience.
Suitable level of English reading, writing and numeracy skills
The ability to research, access and interpret complex documents
Knowledge of building terminology
Access to a building site
Desirable:
at least basic computer skills in spreadsheets, search engines and word processing

Resources Required

During this training, participants must have access to specific resources. Resources may include various codes and standards that are relevant to the subject matter. You may already have some or all of these resources, however it would cost approximately $960 for HIA members to purchase them all (correct at time of publishing). Your regional HIA Training staff can provide you with a list of these required resources and their indicative costs.
